Improved Capacity of the Monash Freeway

The City of Casey believes the capacity of the Monash Freeway requires urgent attention – we want to hear about your experiences with traffic on the Monash Freeway within the Casey region.

Journey to work data from the 2006 Census indicates that approximately 60 percent of car trips from the City of Casey and 40 percent of car trips from the Shire of Cardinia are to destinations to the west of Casey.

Casey and Cardinia currently have a combined population of approximately 330,000 and this is projected to grow to 600,000 over the next 25 – 30 years.

The City of Casey believes the capacity of the Monash Freeway requires urgent attention, including:

construction of a third lane on the Hallam Bypass - upgrade of the Monash / South Gippsland Freeway merge

extension of the Dandenong Southern Bypass to South Gippsland Highway

full duplication of Thompsons Road from Dandenong-Frankston Road to South Gippsland Freeway.
